Peru is the largest of South America’s Andean nations. It
is a beautiful country with tremendous diversity of climate and
terrain. In the northeastern part of the country are the rainforests
of the Amazon Basin and the Andes, the second highest mountain range
in the world, forms the country’s backbone.
Cusco, one of Peru’s most popular destinations, is only a
little more than an hour's flight from Lima. Nestled in a beautiful
mountain valley, Cusco was the former capital of the majestic Inca
Empire. It is a picturesque place with all buildings required by
law to have a red tiled roof. Cusco is considered a living monument.
Many of the city’s buildings were built by the Spanish using
Inca masonry as their foundations. The main cathedral hosts one
of the finest Spanish colonial art collections in the Southern Hemisphere.
Outside of Cusco lies the Sacred Valley of the Incas with its breathtaking
views of snow capped peaks rising 18-20,000 ft. Throughout the valley
are many small towns and villages where you will have the opportunity
to experience the colourful culture, and buy quality local products.
